The Music with Grandpa (TM) Game - How it Started!
Hi! This is Grandpa – Steve Downing of Acton, California. My daughter Debrah had her first child, Cassandra, in 1996.
I noticed that whenever Debrah and Cassandra and my wife were in the car shopping, and so on, that the radio was always on, playing loud rock music, hip hop, rap, etc. There is nothing wrong with this music but the lyrics aren’t always the best.
One day I had an idea to create a cassette tape of classical music to play in the car. I envisioned a tape of ten of the greatest classical music masterpieces of all time. I figured if Cassandra heard that tape every day, with her mom or grandma or I announcing the name of the piece and the composer, she would start to recognize the music and hopefully start to enjoy it!
I never created the tape, but later I created the Music with Grandpa (TM) game, in 2003, when Cassie was 7 years old. Music with Grandpa went on for several years with Cassie and is continuing today with two of her cousins. It is a very fun, interesting and enjoyable activity. And you get to listen to the greatest music ever written!
